Pepper Chicken in pressure cooker is a quick version of traditional South Indian Pepper chicken recipe. Though it is a quick version, it tastes absolutely delicious. I usually do pepper chicken in pressure cooker for dinner, as we all know quick dinner is what every person prefers. At our home, we like to have this pepper chicken with sambhar rice and chapati.

Ingredients:
- 500 grams- Chicken pieces with bone
- 300 grams – Onion – finely Chopped
- 150 grams – Tomato – finely chopped
- 6 – garlic cloves – crushed
- half tsp coriander powder
- 2 cm – ginger – crushed
- 1/4 cup of gingelly oil(Indian Sesame oil)
- 15 – curry leaves
- 1/4 cup of chopped coriander leaves
- 2 tsp of Black pepper powder( to add in the end)
Spice Powders:
- 1/4 tsp of red chili powder
- half tsp of coriander powder
- 1.5 tsp of salt(adjust to taste)
- 2 tsp of Black Pepper powder
- 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder
Whole Spices:
- 2 – short dry red chili
- 1- bay leaf
- 2 – cinnamon sticks -2 cm each
- 3 – cloves
- 2 – green cardamom
- 2 – petals of star anise
- 1/2 tsp of fennel seeds – lightly crushed
Procedure :
- In a 3 to 5 liters pressure cooker, Add the oil and all the whole spices then, layer the onion, Tomato, curry leaves, coriander leaves, spice powders one by one. Lastly, layer the chicken pieces and season the pepper chicken with some salt. Put the Pressure cooker lid on and fix the whistle. Let the Chicken cook over medium-low heat for 30 minutes and turn off the stove but let the cooker sit on the stove itself.
- Once the pressure is reduced, open the pressure cooker, mix well, and again, heat the pepper chicken over medium flame until thickened. Just before to turn off the stove, add 2 tsp of pepper powder and mix well. Pepper Chicken in Pressure cooker is ready.
Serve the Pepper Chicken with chapati, boiled rice, dosa, idly and Parota.
Note :
- Do not add water to pressure cook the chicken.
- Please, remember to pressure cook the chicken over medium-low heat.
- If you don’t have the pressure cooker, please do same steps in Instant pot.
